Coorg or Kodagu Facts

Coorg is a District! However, it was a state before.

Coorg is officially known as Kodagu.

Coorg or Kodagu is one of the smallest districts in Karnataka State.

Coorg or Kodagu comprises of three Taluks/Provinces called Mercara or Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet.

Mercara or Madikeri city is the District Headquarters and a famous hillstaion of Karnataka.

Total Geographical Area of Coorg/Kodagu in Sq. Kms; Madikeri = 1492 Sq Kms, Virajpet = 990 Sq Kms and Somwarpet = 1620 Sq kms

The major peaks are Tadiandamol, Brahmagiri and Pushpagiri Hills.

The largest river in Kodagu district is the Cauvery with its principal tributaries Hemavathi, Lakshmanathirtha, Kakkabbe and Harangi or Survanavati, flows in an easterly direction and river Barapole flows towards west.

Coorg is famous for Coffee, Cardamom, Pepper, Honey, Orange, Paddy, Vanilla & Anthorium.

Hockey is the famous sport of Coorgs followed by Soccer and Cricket.

Nearest Airports to Coorg are Mangalore (180 Kms) and Bangalore (310 Kms)

Nearest Railway Stations to Coorg are Mysore (190Kms), Mangalore (170 Kms) and Bangalore (290 Kms)
